Greenhouse Guide: How to Unlock It and What to Grow
How to unlock the Greenhouse in Stardew Valley, the best crops to plant inside, and the optimal layout for year-round profit.
The Greenhouse is one of the best rewards in Stardew Valley: a field you can grow crops in all year round, immune to seasons. Here’s how to unlock it and what to plant.
How to unlock the Greenhouse
The Greenhouse is the reward for completing the Pantry in the Community Center. You’ll need to complete all its bundles:
- Spring Crops, Summer Crops, Fall Crops, Quality Crops
- Animal Bundle and Artisan Bundle
Alternatively, if you went the Joja route, you can simply pay Joja to restore it.
Most players find the Community Center route worth it — the Pantry bundles are straightforward if you plant a variety of crops each season.
What makes the Greenhouse special
- 120 tillable tiles that work in every season.
- Crops never die from a season change.
- Fruit trees can be planted around the inner edge and produce fruit year-round.
- A water trough refills your watering can — no trip to the farm pond.
The best crops to grow
Ancient Fruit — the long-term king
Ancient Fruit is the best long-term crop in the game:
- It keeps producing fruit every 7 days forever.
- Turn it into wine in a Keg for massive profit.
- Get your first seed from the
Ancient Seed artifact (donate to the museum to get the plantable seed).
Once your Greenhouse is full of Ancient Fruit, you have a permanent, high-value income stream.
Starfruit — the high-value cash crop
Starfruit is the most valuable single harvest. Buy seeds from the Oasis, plant, harvest, and keg into wine. It’s the best raw moneymaker if you don’t mind replanting.
Coffee Beans — the early filler
Coffee Beans grow into coffee plants that regrow every 2 days. They’re a great way to fill the Greenhouse early while you build up Ancient Seeds, and the coffee itself sells well and gives a speed buff.
Fruit trees
Plant fruit trees around the edge of the Greenhouse (in the tiled border area). They produce fruit every day regardless of season — a nice passive bonus.
A recommended layout
- Sprinklers: Place
Iridium Sprinklers to cover the field automatically. A common layout fits 6 iridium sprinklers on the edges, leaving the middle for more. - Fruit trees around the perimeter.
- Fill the rest with Ancient Fruit (or Starfruit/coffee while you build up seeds).
The bottom line
The Greenhouse is your ticket to year-round, season-proof income. Unlock it as fast as you can, plant Ancient Fruit for the long game (or Starfruit for quick cash), and let sprinklers do the watering. A full Greenhouse is one of the best money setups in the game.
